The Pervert Priest Parade & Madonna

Former Deaf School Student Sues Archdiocese Over Sex Abuse Cover Up
In Milwaukee, a former student of a residential school for deaf children filed a civil lawsuit against the Milwaukee Archdiocese, where a priest is believed to have molested as many as 200 boys from 1950 to 1974. The lawsuit filed by Dean Weissmuller, 50, is the 11th civil fraud case pending against the archdiocese alleging sexual abuse by priests. His lawsuit alleges he was molested by Murphy and dorm supervisor Thomas Tannehill between 1970 and 1972 while he was a student at St. John's School for the Deaf in St. Francis. It alleges that the archdiocese knew Murphy and Tannehill had previously abused students, deceived families about it, and allowed the men unsupervised and unrestricted access to vulnerable students in spite of it. "This is not a problem of individual priests or bishops, but a fraudulent system constructed around sexual crimes against children," said Weissmuller. Murphy died in 1998 and Tannehill in 2007. Meanwhile, the Milwaukee Archdiocese has said it could be bankrupted by a judgment in the lawsuits.

To Catch a Predator Priest
In Sydney, the senior priest at one of the city's largest Catholic parishes has been charged after being caught in a police sting in which he allegedly groomed a 13-year-old girl for sex over the internet. Father Robert Macgregor Fuller (r.) is alleged to have contacted a detective who was masquerading as a 13-year-old girl on a web chat program. During three weeks of communication, Father Fuller used his web cam to film himself (ahem) rubbing his rosary and encouraged the decoy to perform sexual acts. Eventually a meeting was arranged for Thursday at a park and the freaky Father was arrested.

Traveling Perv Priest at Center of $600,000 Settlement
In Missouri, a Catholic priest who pleaded guilty to molesting a teenage boy while at a New Jersey parish more than 25 years ago is at the center of a $600,000 settlement in the molestation of a local boy a year later. The Rev. Carmine Sita (l.) pleaded guilty in 1982 to sexually assaulting a 17-year-old boy at some point during his seven years at a the Jersey parish. In spite of being sentence to five years probation in January 1983, Sita was able to join a parish in Missouri by August of that year. In May 2008, a man told church leaders that he was sexually abused by Sita in 1983, when he was a teenager and he and his family were parishioners there.

Safe Houses to Protect Newlywed Couples from Honor Killings

In Haryana, India, police are testing a new pilot program this month that provides safe houses with police protection for newlywed couples judged to be high risk targets of honor killings. Haryana has become the honor killing capital of India with hundreds of cases of couples being attacked (and sometimes brutally murdered) by enraged relatives for defying the strict social codes that dictate who they should marry. According to a recent survery by the International Institute for Population Sciences, 95% of marriages in India were arranged by a bridge and groom's families. Relationships that defy this tradition usually end violently. Responding to the subject of honor killings, Indian Home Minister, P Chidambaram said, “We should hang our heads in shame when such incidents take place in the 21st century.”

And finally...Nobel Prize Winner Calls Madonna "Satantic"

The world's most famous Kabbalahist will perform in Poland on the Feast of the Assumption on August 15, the day Catholics believe the Virgin Mary ascended to heaven and some people are not happy. One curmudgeon is Nobel Peace Prize winner and former Poland President Lech Wałęsa who calls Madonna's performance "a Satanic provocation". Furthermore, Wałęsa says, "I am a man of faith and ask for such events not to happen on such an important feast in my religion." Anyway, the show is scheduled to go on.
