Child Bride Dies Giving Birth & The Banana Sex Cult

Child Bride Dies While Giving Birth
CNN: AMMAN, Jordan -- A 12-year-old Yemeni girl, who was forced into marriage, died during a painful childbirth that also killed her baby, a children's rights group said Monday. Fawziya Ammodi struggled for three days in labor, before dying of severe bleeding at a hospital on Friday, said the Seyaj Organization for the Protection of Children. "Although the cause of her death was lack of medical care, the real case was the lack of education in Yemen and the fact that child marriages keep happening," said Seyaj President Ahmed al-Qureshi. Born into an impoverished family in Hodeidah, Fawziya was forced to drop out of school and married off to a 24-year-old man last year, al-Qureshi said.

Voters Back Adultery Death Law

The Press Association: Lawmakers in a devoutly Muslim Indonesian province voted unanimously that adulterers can be sentenced to death by stoning, just months after voters chose to throw conservative Islamic parties out of power. With only weeks to go before a new government led by a moderate party takes over in Aceh province, hard-liners still in control of the regional parliament have pushed through legislation to impose steep punishments for adultery and homosexuality. The chairman of the 69-seat house asked if the bill could be passed into law and members answered in unison: "Yes, it can." Some members of the moderate Democrat Party, which will lead the incoming government, voiced reservations, but none of them voted against the bill.

Sex Offender Ordained As Priest
MyStateline.com: A rather unique minister was ordained yesterday at a Louisville church. The new minister at the City of Refuge Worship Center in Germantown, Kentucky 41-year-old Mark Hourigan, is a past sex offender. Hourigan served nearly five years in prison for sexual abuse and sodomizing an eleven-year-old boy. He was released three years ago and attended two sex offender treatment programs. Fellow congregants don't seem to mind, but the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests has spoken out against the ordination.

Former Pastor Arrested for Insurance Fraud
The Laurinburg Exchange: A Scotland County pastor made his first court appearance Monday on charges he defrauded his insurance business customers out of a total of $45,000. James William Rupard, 47, of 12460 Angus Drive, Laurinburg, is charged with three counts of embezzlement by an insurance agent and three counts of obtaining property by false pretense, according to investigators with the Laurinburg Police Department, Department of Insurance Criminal Investigations Division and the State Bureau of Investigation.

And finally... Banana Sex Cult Leader on the Run
ABC News: Papua New Guinea police are hunting the leader of a sex cult that promised villagers a bumper banana harvest if they engaged in public sex. The alert was raised after a villager from Yamina in Morobe province walked 12 hours to the nearest town to report the cult's activities. He told police the cult's leader and his followers have been using threats of violence to force people to have sex in public for the past four months. The Post Courier reports villagers had been promised their banana harvest would increase every time they fornicated publicly. Three police officers trekked into the village over the weekend but the leader, identified as Thomas Peli, was able to escape into the bush. Police reinforcements are being sent to the area.
